Revel Books

About Us

Revel Books wasn’t created to publish more crime fiction.

It was created because too much of it plays by safe rules, predictable formulas, and market-tested clichés.

Crime doesn’t work that way.
People don’t work that way.

And stories that pretend otherwise aren’t telling the truth—they’re selling comfort.

Why This Exists

Most crime fiction focuses on the event.

We focus on the pressure that makes the event inevitable.

Revel Books exists to publish stories that examine the forces beneath crime:

  • Power imbalances
  • Quiet desperation
  • Compromised morals
  • Rationalizations that feel reasonable—until it’s too late

These are not stories about “good versus evil.”

They’re about choices, trade-offs, and the cost of crossing a line.

Our Standard Is Simple—and Unforgiving

Every book under the Revel Books name must pass one test:

Does it reveal something true about human behavior under pressure?

If it relies on coincidence, lazy villains, or neat moral resolutions, it doesn’t qualify.

If it tells the truth—even when it’s uncomfortable—it belongs here.

That means:

  • Characters are flawed, capable, and dangerous in believable ways
  • Crime has consequences that linger
  • Justice, when it appears, is complicated
  • And endings are earned, not handed out

Who These Books Are For

Revel Books is for readers who:

  • Don’t need to be told who the “good guy” is
  • Understand that motivation matters more than method
  • Appreciate tension built from psychology, not spectacle
  • And prefer stories that respect their intelligence

These books aren’t designed to reassure you.

They’re designed to engage you, challenge you, and make you think differently about what crime really looks like.
